Certificate of Likely Compliance

Under Tasmanian legislation, a Certificate of Likely Compliance is required for Building or Demolition Work classified as either notifiable or permit building work, including:

  • New Dwellings;
  • Alterations and Additions;
  • Sheds;
  • Decks;
  • Carports;
  • Retaining Walls;
  • Swimming Pools / Spas;
  • Demolition work

This certificate certifies that the proposed building design likely complies with the Building Act and Building Regulations.

Certificate of Substantial Compliance - Illegal Building Work

Property owners who have received a Building Order for unauthorised building work must obtain a Certificate of Substantial Compliance to make the work legal.

Our assessment process evaluates the existing work against the same criteria used for Certificate of Likely Compliance applications. Upon completion of this assessment, we issue the Certificate of Substantial Compliance required for your Council submission to obtain a Permit of Substantial Compliance.

We will provide continual oversight throughout the process to ensure the building work is made compliant.

Category 2.8 Building Work

Category 2.8 Building and Demolition Work is work that does not require a Certificate of Likely Compliance but does require oversight by a building surveyor.

We will analyse and conduct an assessment of the proposed work to determine if the risk in carrying out the work is no greater than other low risk work documented in the Directors Determination - Categories of Building and Demolition Work.

This assessment will give you the knowledge and confidence that your building project meets the requirements of the Building Act and Building Regulations.
